Arctic living

You know you live in the Arctic, when you step out into +5 degerees C (+41 degrees F) and your four-year-old says "Mommy, it's warm! Is summer coming?"

Despite the snow on the ground, albeit melting snow, you agree that it's warm and wonder yourself if spring may come early.

My how things change.

There was a time when the temperature dropped to 71 degrees F (+21 degrees C), I thought it was parka weather.

Crap, I can't remember my password. But it's ~andrewsmom~

Tell me about it! We are in Maine and it has been a long, cold, snowy winter! Yesterday it was 50 degrees and my son thought it was summer =) He asked to go swimming. I should mention it needs to be about 85 degrees for a week straight before I am ready to swim.

Hey, andrewsmom! Fun to "see" you again! :) I'm glad to hear that we are not the only ones who can't wear tank tops and shorts yet!! Maine must be gorgeous though. I bet you get four distinct, beautiful seasons, right? Does the water get warm there? Here we can swim in the summer, but it ain't warm! Water is cold all year round!

I hear you. We still have snowbanks, but it was 47 degrees here (the snowbanks are, alas, melting) and we were out 3 hours with no coats. Just long sleeved T-shirts. We are in MN, and I am not totally anom. I am Jody from the July 2003 board. :)

Well, unfortunately you are asking me that question when I am totally fed up with Maine and winter in general. Asking me today I would tell you it stinks being here and it is winter lasts six months of the year =) But in all honestly, is is beautiful....we love going to the beach and even though I find the water too cold to go in, the are lots of people who disagree, my son included! We do get four distinct seasons, and fall, not summer, is actually my personal favorite. The days are warm, the nights are crisp and the air is so "clean"!

Hi, Jody! Great to "see" you here too! :) We're all in the same boat, so we can commiserate together! Fall is also my favorite season. I think the perfect kind of weather is when you need a light jacket, hat, no gloves and are still comfortable. It just feels so crisp and clean in that kind of air. Spring is just around the corner. Meanwhile, we can pity those poor suckers sweltering away in the tropics. How miserable to be hot and sweaty wearing nothing but a tank top and shorts. Sucks to be them. Right? Right?!
